I anticipated backlash when I wrote the blog about Shay Johnson's arrest warrant. I would now like to address it . I do want to point out that I haven't really received much negative feedback but none the less I would still like to address it so that there can be some clarity. The reason I said I was a singer was to explain that writing is not my strong suit. I guess I was worried that people would attack my writing style and blog that isn't really a blog so that is why I said I was a singer....
1. I am no longer an aspiring singer because the truth is I am well known as a singer already especially in my great home state of Iowa. I am also known on the internet for my insane youtube videos so this whole she did it for fame response is really redundant please my friends let it go... Let's just pretend I am not a singer. ok.. thanks
2. I am black , I am a woman , I am a mother . I am a human . All of these things are valid aren't they ? Great so Let us please focus on that. I wanted people to know it was me because of the first part of #2
I felt like standing up as a black woman who is also a mother would say to the community and to whoever else happens to come across the story that not all Black women and even single mothers as I am also a single mother too are like Shay or women like her. There needs to be a face , Would you want a white woman telling you she reported the incident .. because we all know how that would go, She would be labeled a racist faster than you can blink and that's just the truth.
3. I have a son a black and white son. As our sons grow into men society begins to change the way they treat them. My son is already going to have assumptions about him because he will most likely stand taller than 6 ft .. I don't want that for my child. I don't want people to be afraid of him , He is amazing and kind and sweet and patient.
4. I also wanted people to know it was me so that the people involved with the show including shay would realize that I do have credentials. I have always used my platform for uplifting people, telling people they are worth so much more than they think they are. This is something I have done my entire life really. I am a professional person whose accolades are notable. Listen you can't keep acting this way. Once you go off tv trust me it will be hard to maintain because you will be known for very unfavorable behavior. I urge all the reality tv stars to think about that. Look at Nene Leakes. she is a great example of success thru a reality tv show but as you see she is type-cast often , what I mean by that is she solely works on other reality tv shows or plays an intimidating black woman on tv. The money she makes from Real housewives of atlanta is so great that unless another job offer comes with the same pay what will she replace it with?
Kudos to her by the way for following her dreams.
5. If I was doing this to get famous why would that be such an awful horrible thing? I think it's really positive to take a stand for something you believe in and people don't really go hard for causes anymore like they used to back in the 60's and 70s. I think its awesome when people believe in themselves enough to take risk.
Not everyone wants to be Beyonce famous trust me... I do not think I could handle that.
Believe what you want.
What is fame ? a bunch of people knowing who you are for what you have done ? well if that is the case then I have been famous for the last 5yrs of my life because that was when I started my youtube channel and one of my videos went viral over night ..........I also in that same year started my band Ladysoal look it up if your heart desires but then don't accuse me of trying to become famous .. lol
What I am really trying to get at here is stop re-directing from the REAL ISSUE. You would be so enraged had Shay hit you in head and VH1 and every single person around you made you feel like you were crazy and deserved it and didn't even care about getting you justice. Yep that is the truth. So I am a black Woman who is saying stop the violence on tv . Let's just pretend I work at Mcdonalds.
6. If you still aren't convinced then please google the words ladysoal along with the words Youtube america's got talent, justin timberlake , Mtv's made , interscope records, Jurassic 5 , Curve magazine , DSM magazine , City View magazine , Iowa State Daily, Juice Magazine , LA fashion week , The Des Moines Register , The Ames Tribune , Afro-punk.com , not to mention all the venues I have played at from Iowa to LA california including The Viper Room ...... ok, It would be insane to think that I am Aspiring to be a singer when in fact I already am and have been doing so successfully for quite sometime. Thank you Meditate it is good for the soul.
